What's with the late notice?

So, I just got off the phone with the hiring manager. He wanted to know if I could meet this afternoon! I told him it was too late notice for me to get away today. Seriously though - if I was in the downtown core, maybe I could arrange to meet during the lunch hour but I'm at least a 25 minute subway ride away. Tomorrow is probably a no-go for him since he'd like to take the day off (so maybe my Fringe day is on after all!) and next week may be difficult as well because of the month-end cycle. I wait now for him to call me later this afternoon...
