Julie Strachey's Cheerful Weather for the Wedding is Persephone Books' 38th title and, despite being only 128 pages, it was sloooow - so slow that when I picked it up for the first time a couple years ago, I had to abandon it after the first 30 pages.This time around, it was still slow, but I slogged through it and was rewarded with a plot twist that took me by complete surprise and now I feel the need to reread it because there were parts - I admit - that I skipped through to bring the book to a speedier end.
