Jane over at Ill Seen, Ill Said is considering chairs for her Tulip, so this one's for her:
All of these chairs are on the low-end of the price scale - I was thinking if I was going to blow $$$ on the table, I'd skimp a bit on the chairs, at least for the time-being.
My favourite look so far is featured in April 2008's Style at Home Colour Issue which is currently on newsstands - flip to page 124 and see the airy dining area of interior designer Stacey Litwin-Davies' kitchen (sorry, don't have a scanner and can't seem to find the image online - will update with a photo when I'm able - I also really love her sunroom with the "assertive green walls.") The closest I've found to the chairs in the photo is the Sophie Chair above...the hunt continues though...

These all work for sure and are certainly a good option if you're on a budget! I agree that of all of these the Style at Home image is my fave.
ReplyDeleteFor me, I'm looking for more of a juxtaposition of design styles... something a bit more unexpected.
What do you think of this one? http://www.stylegarage.com/products/seating/thompsonchair/thompsonchair.shtml
ReplyDeleteI found last night... Good price, something a little different, nice retailer - not something everybody will have etc...
You know, this was actually the first I had really considered! I'm on GUS Designs' email list and this was in their ad promoting their participation in IDS08. :) I like that it's got a mod vibe and looks like it could be really comfy too.
ReplyDeleteAfter checking out The Story of Saarinen Table... over at a mad tea party with alis, and thinking about your first comment about juxtaposition, I'm leaning more and more towards something comfy, upholstered and tufted a la Restoration Hardware's Martine Dining Chair, which I think you may have blogged about too, if I recall correctly.
Oh yeah - I included that on my original list! As you know I love a good scoop and I think the scoop on this back ties with the scoop of the tulip base, so it ties in without matching.
ReplyDeleteFor me, I want something with arms so they're really comfy chairs for extra seating (away from the table), but if I had the freedom of separating those functions, these would most definitely be on my wishlist!
